UNMASKED, AT LAST?

Well, isn't this just the cutest collection of FLASH folks you've ever seen? The question is, what does it have to do with Yours Truly? Mums the word for a bit longer, but details soon. For now, enjoy the preview...

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2013

Where were you last Saturday?

Hopefully, you were like me. Out buying comic books. And getting even more of them for FREE. Yes, in case you still haven't gotten on board yet, the first Saturday in May is always Free Comic Book Day. It's an opportunity to pick up new stories you haven't read, old favorites you've missed over the years, or to discover a whole new world of geeky goodness.

This year I spent FCBD here in Los Angeles visiting four of my favorite comic retail outlets:

1. House of Secrets
2. Emerald Knights
3. Golden Apple
4. Meltdown

Much fun was had seeing the crowds, chatting with fans and fellow geeks, and getting tons of... well... free comics. (Okay, I might picked up some no-so-free ones, too, but that's my sickness.) Pictured above are fans dressed as what would be the COOLEST Avengers line-up EVER. Because it also has Superman and Robin! Can you imagine the possibilities? Iron Man and Superman on the same time? Oh, Marvel and DC... put away your differences for once and let me write this fabulous, epic one-shot. Oh, and for a villainous threat, how about a "cosmic"version of The Joker who becomes possessed by the eternal soul of Thanos, then decides to destroy the universe just to see what happens? Now that's chaos. Yeah, I'm down for that.  As long as Vixen and Storm can also join the fun, because this team needs a bit of diversity, folks.

OKAY. I'M DONE FANTASIZING FOR THE MOMENT.

As you can see from the pictures above (Meltdown, top, and Golden Apple, bottom), tons of comic book enthusiasts turned out this year. Every shop I visited was packed! I don't know the numbers, but it sure seemed to me like this was the biggest turnout for FCBD yet, at least here in Los Angeles.

Can't. Wait. Until. Next Year!

EWROTE @ GALLIFREY 2013

Going to this year's GALLIFREY CONVENTION in Los Angeles, CA? I am, and I hope to see you there. I've been going to this convention for 20+ years, and a fantastic time is always had by all!

Some of my favorite moments over the years have been chatting with new friends at an impromptu party only to realize halfway through the conversation that it was Sylvester McCoy and Sophie "Ace" Aldred (it was dark and I was just a wide-eyed newbie!), discovering the "all-new" Big Finish audios with their very first release "The Sirens of Time," finally meeting my all-time favorite companion Liz Sladen before she passed away, hearing Nicola Bryant speak for the first time waaaay back in 1993 and discovering--to my shock--that she isn't American (!), listening to the reunited cast of the 1996 movie perform a live running commentary on the film over a decade later, and--of course--listening to Colin Baker pontificate! (I love that guy!).

But the best part about a Gallifrey con are THE FANS. The people who put together and who attend this event are fantastic, fun, and friendly as heck. Because of this, I've made a lot of friends there over the years when attending each convention, and I hope to make many more again this year. In a nutshell, Gallifrey One is a wonderful testament to all-things-great about genre fandom.

Now, if you are coming this year, make sure to pop into the "48 FRAMES PER SECOND" panel on Saturday. I'll be joining fellow Whovians James Kerwin (director, "Yesterday Was A Lie"), David Gerrold (writer, Star Trek: "The Trouble With Tribbles" & tons of other stuff you love), and Steve Roberts (senior DW Restoration Team content producer). We'll be discussing THE HOBBIT and whether or not "HFR" (high frame rate) photography / content is the next big thing in entertainment. And yes, we WILL work DOCTOR WHO into the conversation somehow! Because, well, it's a frakkin' Doctor Who convention, eh?

"48 FRAMES PER SECOND" PANEL
Saturday, Feb. 15th @ 1pm

The 24 Hours of Gallifrey One... see you there!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Well, it is THAT time of year already. And while I have been a bit quiet for the last few months, I have NOT been sitting on my collective behind doing nothing. Yes, I have been writing, plotting, and checking a few dream projects off my to do list.
So get ready for some fresh Ewrote product in 2013. There will be announcements along the way, plus signings, appearances, and who knows... maybe even a web  premiere or three. Sorry, no spoilers just yet. Happy Holidays for now. Enjoy the new Doctor Who Christmas Special -- I cannot wait to see it!

And then I will see you in 2013... where things will get very, very interesting!
